Economist

Stephen Paduano is an economist at the Finance for Development Lab. He works on issues related to the international monetary system and global development, with a focus on Special Drawing Rights and the management of foreign-exchange reserves. He was previously a consultant to the UN Economic Commission for Africa and served on the Economic Policy Advisory Committee of the Biden For President 2020 campaign. He has taught “International Political Economy” and “China & The Global South” at the London School of Economics, and “Global Development: Theory, Policy, Practice” at Sciences Po. He has written for The Atlantic, The Economist, The Financial Times, Le Monde, El Pais, The Washington Post, and others. Stephen holds a BA with honors from Stanford University, an MSc with distinction from the London School of Economics, and is currently pursuing his PhD at the London School of Economics.
