Looking for an experienced economist

 

The Finance for Development Lab is a think-tank based in Paris, part of the policy institute CEPREMAP and hosted by the Paris School of Economics. Launched in June 2022, it aims at making finance for development more equitable, by working with think-tanks and policy makers in the Global South. Among current projects, it works on the frameworks of debt restructuring, the role of multilateral development banks, reform of climate finance, etc. The Lab is constituted by a small and growing team.

We are looking for a senior economist who would be engaged in research and project management. The main projects s/he would handle would revolve around sovereign debt risks and the consequences of climate risk for developing countries. Topics could include: reforms of the debt restructuring architecture, the role of MDBs and their financial model, the risks of domestic debt restructurings, etc; as well as topics on investment in climate resilience and mitigation in EMDEs: debt swaps, ESG-related topics and project finance.

For this, we are looking for an economist with a passion for development finance and topics around climate finance and sovereign debt of developing countries. S/he should have solid hands-on experience in related sectors: international finance institutions, private investors, sovereign advisory, or ministries of finance (in developing or advance economies). An important advantage would be to have direct experience in doing Debt Sustainability Analyses and a knowledge of IMF programs. A background in modelling would also be an important plus.

Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD in related field
  • About 8 years of experience on finance of developing countries (5 if PhD)
  • Previous writing on research/policy work on development finance and demonstrated ability to translate research into clear policy writing, including policy briefs and op-eds
  • Strong data analysis skills
  • Willingness to relocate in Paris in the medium term

Preferred

  • Ability to speak French would help
